Transneft relaunches pipeline after oil spill, fire accident

MOSCOW/SARATOV, Jan 22 (PRIME) -- Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft has relaunched the Kuibyshev–Tikhoretsk oil pipeline after an oil spill and a fire accident that happened on January 18, Igor Dyomin, aide to the president of Transneft, told reporters on January 21.

“Repair and restoration works on the Kuibyshev–Tikhoretsk main pipeline were finished at 12:30 a.m. Moscow time on January 21. The oil pipeline was launched in a technological regime at 1:58 a.m. Moscow time on January 21,” he said.

He added that the contaminated soil has been collected and moved out.

According to data of the Federal Service for Natural Resources Oversight, 2,000 cubic meters spilt out of the pipeline. The fire that broke out after the spill damaged 10 residential houses of the village of Krasnoarmeiskoye near the pipeline and completely burnt down two of them. No injuries or casualties were reported.
